WHAT ÄVENTYRS IS AND STANDS FOR

About Äventyrs – The Adventure Museum

Äventyrs – The Adventure Museum in Stockholm was created to inspire people to grow – both as individuals and as a society. For us, adventure is more than extreme expeditions and dramatic landscapes. It is about courage, curiosity, and daring to dream in a world shaped by stress, pressure, and a lack of direction.

We believe many of society’s challenges stem from this very issue: lost dreams. When life is reduced to performance and routine, we lose touch with what makes us feel truly alive. Yet human nature is rooted in exploration, in pushing boundaries, and in turning the impossible into reality.

At Äventyrs, people, nature, and stories from around the world come together. Through photography, film, and documentation, we aim to reignite that inner drive—encouraging reflection, connection, and responsibility for ourselves and the planet. A museum that not only shows what humanity has done, but reminds us of what we are still capable of becoming.

Take the first step towards your next adventure

What happens before a photograph is taken?

Lens & Legends – Adventure Behind the Camera is an immersive exhibition that invites you into the lived moments behind images of wild lives—from wolves and beavers in North America to chimpanzees and mountain gorillas in East Africa.

Ronan Donovan has spent more than twenty years working at the intersection of field biology, storytelling, and art. His work includes extended time alongside the Yellowstone Wolf Project with National Geographic photographer Michael Nichols, as well as years studying chimpanzees in Uganda and documenting restoration stories across changing landscapes. Together, these experiences form a body of work grounded in an invitation from the wild back to our authentic human selves.

Throughout the exhibition, visitors are invited beyond the frame—through maps, field notes, sketches, video, and audio gathered over decades of fieldwork. Here, science is not abandoned but deepened, joined by emotion, intuition, and art. Data carries heartbeats. Observation becomes a relationship. Donovan’s work is rooted in field biology, yet guided by empathy, allowing wild lives to remain intact while inviting us to feel our way back into connection.

This exhibition is not only about wildlife or photography. It is about remembering—remembering how attention shapes understanding, how patience creates intimacy, and how encounters with the more-than-human world can orient us toward a deeper sense of belonging.
As a visitor, you step into that process.

Beside the Photographer.
Amongst wildlife families.
Inside the vital work of remembering our own wildness.
An exhibition that moves, inspires, and awakens the spirit of adventure.

an adventure

in the wild

Lens & Legends – Adventure Behind the Camera is an immersive exhibition by Ronan Donovan that takes you behind the images. Through decades of fieldwork among wolves, primates, and some of the world’s most remote landscapes, the exhibition explores the meeting between humans and the wild — where time, patience, and presence matter more than technique, and where the photographer is a guest, not the protagonist.

Wolves in the open landscape.

Movement, vigilance, and interaction within a system that functions without an audience. A life shaped by instinct, relationships, and the relentless rhythm of the seasons.

Stillness before action. Nothing is decided in haste, nothing in impulse. Only through presence, distance, and respect for the balance between life and survival.

A landscape without human references. Distance, scale, and time lose their meaning. Here, humans are not the measure — only temporary observers.

Only the outcome of nature’s own order, where life continues and ends without explanation or regard.
